What is actually on the checklist

Six things that separate a real tune-up from a look-around

01

We measure. We do not eyeball.

Capacitor microfarads against the rating stamped on the can. Amp draw on the blower and the compressor. Temperature rise across the heat exchanger. Static pressure across the filter and coil. A tune-up without numbers is a wipe-down.

02

Combustion gets analyzed, not assumed

On a gas furnace or boiler we put an analyzer in the flue and read what is actually coming off the burner, and we check for carbon monoxide in the room while it runs. That is the part of the visit that is about your family rather than your bill.

03

Refrigerant charge is verified, not topped off

We check superheat and subcooling against the nameplate. If the charge is low, something is leaking. Adding refrigerant every spring is not maintenance, it is a subscription to a leak, and we will tell you where it is instead.

04

We check incoming line voltage

Most shops skip this. Line voltage in parts of the county runs near the top of the legal range, and that quietly destroys the electronics in modern inverter-driven equipment. If your system has eaten more than one board, this is usually why.

05

You get the readings, not just a sticker

Every visit leaves you with the numbers we took. Year over year you can watch a capacitor drift toward failure or a blower start pulling more amps. That is how a tune-up turns into a warning instead of a receipt.

06

We tell you when maintenance is not worth it

If your furnace is twenty-two years old and the heat exchanger is on borrowed time, we are not going to keep tuning it up and calling that a plan. We will show you the replacement arithmetic and let you decide.

Maintenance plan questions we get asked

What is the Comfort Club maintenance plan?

The Comfort Club is our HVAC maintenance plan. It covers your annual furnace and air conditioner tune-ups at $10 off the regular price, with a reminder from us every year so a year never gets missed. Each visit includes combustion analysis on gas equipment, electrical readings on every motor and capacitor, a verified refrigerant charge, an airflow and static pressure check, and a standard filter change, and you get the readings in writing. There is no contract, no signature and no long-term commitment.

How much does a furnace or AC tune-up cost without a plan?

A clean and tune is $148 for a gas furnace or a cast iron boiler, $148 for an air conditioner, or $296 for both together. A ductless mini split is $210 for one outdoor and one indoor unit, plus $75 for each extra indoor head. A high-efficiency boiler is $775 and is done every three years rather than annually. A humidifier is cleaned at no charge while we are there for another service. Prices current as of August 2026.

How much does the Comfort Club cost?

There is no membership fee. You pay for the tune-ups as they happen, and in the Comfort Club a furnace and air conditioner tune-up is $10 less than the regular $296, so $286. Call (920) 564-2333 and we will sign you up on the phone.

Do the furnace and air conditioner have to be done on the same day?

No. We can do both in one visit or on two separate visits, and the $10 discount is the same either way. With separate visits, the discount comes off after the second one.

Is there a contract or a cancellation fee?

No. There is nothing to sign and no long-term commitment. The Comfort Club is an annual reminder and a discount, not a paid membership. If you would rather go back to booking visits yourself, tell us and we will take you off the list.

I already have a service contract with you. What happens to it?

We will switch you over to the Comfort Club at your next service visit. Your technician will walk you through it, and there is nothing you need to do before then.

How often should a furnace be serviced?

Once a year, every year. Skipped years are what cost money: gas furnaces need annual heat exchanger checks for safety reasons, not just efficiency ones, and most manufacturers expect documented annual service to keep a parts warranty in force. If you are booking a one-off visit, do it before you need the heat. Comfort Club members are scheduled by us, in the weeks our technicians have the most time to be thorough.

Is air conditioner maintenance actually worth it?

Yes, mostly because of two failures it catches cheaply. A run capacitor that has drifted below its rating will still start the compressor in May and will not in July, and a condenser coil packed with cottonwood makes the compressor work harder every hour it runs. Air conditioner maintenance also verifies the refrigerant charge, which is the difference between a system running at its rated efficiency and one quietly running at eighty percent of it.

Will a maintenance plan stop my system from breaking down?

No, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling. What it does is catch the wear items while they are still inexpensive. A flame sensor cleaned during a tune-up is a line on a checklist; the same sensor failing on a Saturday in January is an after-hours no-heat call. It will not stop a twenty-year-old blower motor from giving up or a board from taking a hit in a storm.

Do I need a plan if my system is brand new?

Yes, and new equipment is the strongest case for it. Manufacturers commonly require documented annual maintenance to keep a parts warranty valid, so the visits are protecting a much larger number than they cost. New inverter-driven equipment is also more sensitive to airflow and incoming voltage than the equipment it replaced, and those are exactly the things a proper tune-up measures. If we install your system, we sign you up for the Comfort Club at installation so the first visit is already on our list.

Do you maintain ductless mini splits?

Yes. A mini split clean and tune is $210 for one outdoor unit and one indoor head, and $75 for each additional head. They need it more than people expect, because the indoor blower wheel and filter sit in the living space and collect everything in the room. More on ductless systems.

What can I do myself between visits?

Change the filter and keep the outdoor unit clear. A 1-inch filter wants changing every one to three months depending on pets and dust, and a clogged one is the single most common cause of both a tripped limit switch in winter and a frozen coil in summer. In summer, keep grass clippings, cottonwood and shrubs a couple of feet back from the condenser. In winter, keep the furnace intake and exhaust pipes on the side of the house clear of snow and ice, because a drifted-over intake will shut the furnace down on a safety.

Get on the list, and stop thinking about it.
