How Long Will My Air Conditioner Last?
If you are keeping up with routine maintenance, your air conditioner can last you up to 20 years. It could show signs of wear and tear or need a repair every now and then but should provide cool air regularly. However, if you hear strange noises, see massive utility bills, or feel inconsistent cooling, it may be time to consider a new system.
Can I Schedule AC Maintenance at Any Time of Year?
Because they are outdoor units, air conditioners need to be serviced during warmer weather—when it’s at least 60 degrees out. We recommend having this done at the end of spring or beginning of summer. Schedule it along with your yearly furnace service for convenience.
Do Energy Ratings Matter When Choosing a New AC?
Yes! Air conditioners are rated by something called an Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER). Look for a rating of eight or higher. Remember—the higher the rating, the lower your energy costs will be. Don’t know which system to choose? Trust our team to help you find the perfect fit for your home and budget.
Should I Update My Furnace When Getting a New Air Conditioner?
No, it’s not necessary. Other than using the same ductwork to circulate air, your AC and furnace work separately from each other. However, if you need an upgrade for both systems, consider having them done at the same time. It can help you save on installation costs and give you peace of mind.
How Often Should I Replace My Air Filter?
Changing your air filter can help you avoid costly heating and cooling repairs and maximize your systems’ performances. In general, replace one-inch filters every month and two-inch filters every two to three months. For four-inch MERV 8 filters—which we include with most of our new furnace installations—change them every six months. If you have pets or allergies, consider replacing your filter more often.
