Haven’t kept up on all the latest in home cooling systems and environmental regulations? No problem—the team at Advanced Comfort Systems has experts in both, with this quick recap of the current phase-out of R22—or, as you might know it, Freon.
Free from Freon—when the clock strikes midnight on January 1, 2020, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will officially ban R22, classifying it as an illegal refrigerant due to the damaging effect it has on our ozone layer.
A hot topic for many—if your system is older and runs on R22, you don’t have to stop using it, however, you will not be able to make some necessary repairs. The reason? We legally won’t be able to add or replace this refrigerant, which is one of the more common 24-hour emergency service calls we get. We can still help you get cool again, but we may have to install a new air conditioner.
Time’s on your side, for now—if you’re still chilling with R22, you’ve got two years until this refrigerant—and possibly your cooling system—is obsolete. That’s why it’s important to know your options now and have a plan to manage your comfort and costs.
- Let it ride! If your system is running smoothly, it’s perfectly fine to play the waiting game to get your money’s worth.
- Stay ahead of the curve by replacing your system. We understand that buying a new air conditioner is a big decision, but a lot has changed in the world of HVAC—specifically in the energy-saving department. With new technology on your side, suddenly what seems like an added expense transforms into a pretty cool investment, especially when you consider what you can save in operating costs and ongoing repairs.
You’ll make the best decision when you have time to weigh your options, and also when you work with a reputable provider. Did we mention we’re an award-winning Carrier® Factory Authorized Dealer? We are, and proud of it. Comfort is our middle name, so if you’re worried about what the R22 ban will mean for you, please don’t hesitate to contact us for more information.
