Young female homeowner reads on couch after finding ideal home temperature.

Maintaining both efficiency and comfort can be a balancing act when it comes to finding your ideal home temperature. Thankfully, the Carrier® experts at Advanced Comfort Systems have the know-how to help. In our blog below, we’re breaking down all the factors that can affect your home comfort—and how to navigate them. Read it over and call us when you need help.

Factors to Consider

Though it varies based on personal preference, according to ENERGYSTAR.gov, the ideal home temperature ranges between 70 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit.

There are a few factors you can take into account when trying to maintain the magical thermostat number that works for you and your family:

Time of Day and Year

Many people prefer cooler temperatures while sleeping at night. If you’re in this category, set your thermostat to the lower end of the spectrum during these hours. Then during waking hours, you can raise the temp back up to keep you comfortable throughout the day.

Another factor to consider is the time of year. Depending on the season, your ideal home temperature will vary. For example, during the hot days of summer, you’ll opt to keep your home a bit cooler than you would prefer to during winter. It may take some trial and error to find out what works best for you and your family.

Home Humidity Levels

If the humidity levels in your home are off, the number on your thermostat might not be a good indicator of what the temperature really feels like. When your levels are too high, you tend to feel warmer and even a little bit sticky. On the flip side, if levels are too low, you might find the air to be dry and uncomfortable as well.

If you suspect your home has either of these issues, you can install a humidifier or dehumidifier to help fix them. Or, if you’re not sure what the problem is, you can also contact Advanced Comfort for more guidance. We’ll help you determine the proper system for your home.

Thermostat Efficiency

Are you frequently adjusting your thermostat to stay comfortable? Or is your thermostat inconvenient to access?  If so, you may want to consider installing a Wi-Fi thermostat. This will give you the ability to constantly monitor your home temperature wherever you are. It will also allow you to make adjustments from an app on your smartphone. You’ll never have to worry about maintaining the ideal home temperature because it will always be set.

A Wi-Fi thermostat is typically standard with a new system installation, but you can add these programming capabilities as an upgrade as well. Don’t let your busy lifestyle interfere with the comfort of your home!
